JPHL 4 for SZN4 December 30
14U Langley HA
First Winter Title
A wild final saw Langley claim its first Winter title in Hub history.
Things didn’t start well for Langley as they dropped a 7-5 decision to Island HC, but that adversity led to four straight wins, including the championship game.
A 2-0 tilt turned on its head in the final nine minutes of the second period with seven goals. South Sask HC would tie the game in the third period before Langley would wrestle back control for the 9-7 win.
Samarpreet Hansra notched the game-winning goal with less than two minutes to play on the power play, his second goal of the tournament.
15U Bow Valley HC
Total Domination
It was a master class in hockey from Bow Valley HC as they scored more than five goals per game and gave up a single goal in their last three games, including the final, where they downed South Sask HC 4-1 to win a dominant winter title.
Nathan Hilderman scored a pair of goals to build a 3-0 lead, while Jakub Kreml added two of his own.
Milan Liptaj led the tournament in scoring with four goals and 10 points, while Daniel Nielson went 3-0 with a .957 save percentage and 1.34 goals against average.
17U Langley HA
Rivalry Win
LHA stormed their way to a Bauer Winter Championships title, with their smallest margin of victory being four goals.
They faced rival Coquitlam HC in the championship game and scored four in the first and four in the third on their way to a 9-3 win.
Langley fired 18 shots in the opening period and 20 in the third for a total of 52. Five players had multi-point games, and the closest Coquitlam could get was two.
18U Bow Valley HC
Big Footprint
Team Bigfoot left a lasting impression on the Bauer Winter Championships but faced a stiff test in the final game.
They were winning games by an average of five goals, but relied on their goaltender in the title game.
HC Edmonton fired 46 shots on Jack Hunter, but he yielded just two goals, and his team gave him just enough offence for a 3-2 victory.
Vojtech Bulat scored the game-winning goal around the midway point of the third period, and Bow Valley held off an HCE rally that led to a power play goal late in the game.
