Langley, BC — April 11-13, 2025 — The Junior Prospects Hockey League (JPHL) is proud to announce the inaugural JPHL/HSL Officiating Combine, taking place in Langley, British Columbia from April 11-13, 2025. Hosted by the SISE Referee Academy, this premier event is open to ALL officials across every model and level of hockey, offering an unmatched opportunity for skill development, networking and identification.
Participants will gain exclusive access to NHL experience, hands-on development sessions, and direct interaction with BCHL Officiating Supervisors and current officials. This is more than just a camp—it’s a platform to hone your skills, expand your network, and be identified by top-tier hockey executives and officials.
“The JPHL is committed to fostering the growth of officials at every level,” said Brad Lazarowich, VP of Hockey Operations for the BCHL. “We take pride in seeing our officials’ progress into junior hockey, the ECHL, AHL, and beyond. We have current JPHL officials skating in the ECHL and AHL at the same time within the same season as we speak. We have officials in the JPHL that have recently attended the NHL Combine in Buffalo (August 2024) this season! We have quickly become the path for officials to advance to the highest levels of hockey and we are proud that so many officials are choosing to learn from our development model. We invest more than any other league or model in the sport. We have an Officiating Executive dedicated to all ages and levels of our programming while also working closely with our Department of Player Safety”.
Scott Fulmer, VP of Officiating (JPHL/HSL) states, “the JPHL and HSL offers Officials the opportunity to skate a 4-person officiating structure at the youngest age in Canada - all levels of U12 and older are skating 4-person crews. We offer free jerseys at no cost as opposed to other models making their officials purchase their own. These expenses add up for our officials and we recognize the need to invest and help them advance. This particular combine is an incredible stepping stone for anyone serious about advancing their officiating career while meeting the most influential stakeholders in Alberta and BC at the same time. The game is changing and we understand where the investments in our officiating program is needed and cannot be more excited to work with all officials in the BC area in April.”
Lazarowich, an official with 1,971 NHL games including the 2001/2002/2003 Stanley Cup Finals and 1996 & 2004 World Cup, continues, “we are proud that our officials have the opportunity to earn travel experiences, including travel to Edmonton, AB where the league hosts many special events and league showcases in the signature arena venue, Silent Ice Center, a $60-million dollar facility that opened in 2024 and is state-of-the-art”. Many of the special events include video review with a central command centre, officials using the in-arena PA system to announce results of the video reviews. These are incredible experiences for officials to gain skillsets and confidence before advanced to higher levels of officiating.
