Bouchier 14U Victoria Hockey Academy
Victorious
It was a tidy weekend for VHA as they swept Coquitlam HC in the Play-In round with 3-1 and 5-1 victories.
It was a total team effort by Victoria as they spread the scoring around – only one player had more than one goal - and Hunter Villecourt shut the door in goal, making 55 saves on 57 shots and setting the tone with 13 saves on 14 shots in the opening period of the series.
Victoria and Coquitlam finished with the same number of wins in the regular season, and Victoria is now almost halfway to that win total in the postseason.
They will now face the first-place Surrey Eagles in round one of the Prospects Cup Playoffs.
15U Titans Hockey Union
Tighten Up
It wasn’t easy, but the Titans Hockey Union slipped past the Calgary Rockies in two tight clashes.
Both games ended 2-1, making the sweep much closer than it appeared. Four different goal scorers lit the lamp for the Titans Hockey Union, who never trailed for a second in the best-of-three series.
The Titans hammered the puck in both games with 51 and 48 shots on goal, and William Routledge and Landon Strause were brilliant, turning aside 40 of 42 shots against.
The Titans are a confident bunch, and they’ll need it against the Bauer Winter Champions, Bow Valley HC, in round one of the Prospects Cup playoffs.
17U Okanagan HC
Comebackers
The Warriors from West Kelowna were clinical in their defeat of Coquitlam in the Play-In round.
Four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win on Friday and scoring the go-ahead goal midway through the third period in game two for the series sweep.
The only aspect of the weekend they will want to correct is giving up the first goal of the game. Playing from behind worked for the Warriors, though, as their goaltending bent but didn’t break early in games, then barred the door when needed.
They now face Langley, who didn’t lose a regulation game all season long in round one of the Prospects Cup playoffs.
18U Lethbridge United
Perfect Pasemko
The U punched its ticket to the playoffs with a decisive victory over the Calgary Rockies in game of of the Play-In round.
Lucas Pasemko kicked out all 32 shots, and Lethbridge fired 42 on net in a 2-0 win to earn them a three-game series with HC Edmonton in round one of the Prospects Cup playoffs starting Friday in Edmonton.
Lethbridge jumped out early with a 12-7 shot advantage after one and led 1-0 thanks to a Tyce Perkins beauty. Pasemko did the rest, stopping 25 shots in the final two periods, while Cohen Zasadny added an insurance marker.
