The Surrey Eagles came out flying early, striking first on home ice when Deven Bhathal converted a setup from Liam Egan and Aiden Gauer just under 11 minutes into the opening period. But that would be the lone bright spot for the Eagles, as Lethbridge United quickly responded. On a power play after an interference call against Gauer, Devin Groenenboom buried a goal assisted by Colin Fancy and Tyce Perkins to even the score. From there, Lethbridge took complete control, outshooting Surrey 18-9 in the first and setting the tone for a relentless offensive performance.
The second period was a masterclass in pressure from the visitors. Dalton Friesen netted the eventual game-winner early in the frame, assisted by Carter Jensen and Leo Sander. The floodgates then opened as Hudson Gauld scored two quick goals just 31 seconds apart—the first from Delphin De Boer and Luke Zienchuk, and the second assisted by Tyce Perkins. Surrey’s discipline wavered, taking three minor penalties in the period, and their offense was completely stifled, managing only three shots against the structured Lethbridge defense and goaltender Drake Chester.
Any hope of a Surrey comeback was extinguished in the third period. On another power play, Tyce Perkins scored his first of the night, with helpers from Carter Jensen and Devin Groenenboom. Dane Wood added an even-strength marker, and Perkins capped off a stellar three-point night with his second goal in the final two minutes, sealing the 7-1 rout. Lethbridge’s Chester was perfect after the first goal, turning aside all 15 shots he faced, while Surrey’s Daniel Russell faced a barrage of 54 shots in a tough outing. The United’s balanced attack, highlighted by multi-point nights from Perkins, Gauld, Jensen, and De Boer, proved far too much for the Eagles to handle.
